AkwaCross Association of Canada was officially established with Industry Canada in February 2006 with Corporation Number 4347307.
The National Association was formed as a culmination of the preparatory work of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), which was constituted from the Chapters’ membership in late 2009 to lay the foundation for its establishment. Members of the group include but not limited to indigence states as prescribed in our bylaws.
OBJECTIVES OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION SHALL BE A
- Provide settlement and integration programs that enable immigrant members of the Akwacross Canadian community in Ottawa to adjust to Canadian life, integrate into the wider Canadian society, and make their own contribution to the advancement of Canadian
society as a whole over the long term.
- Prevent school dropout among youth of Akwa-Ibom State and Cross River State (Nigeria) origins in Ottawa, and to encourage academic excellence and higher educational achievement within the Akwacross Canadian community in Ottawa by providing:
a. scholarships to both Akwacross Canadians in Ottawa who have demonstrated sheer
excellence in their pre-graduate school or graduate school studies, and those who
have demonstrated academic success at the secondary and post-secondary levels
while overcoming personal or family hardships; and
b. bursaries to Akwacross Canadians in Ottawa at-risk of dropping out of their post-secondary studies because of financial hardship.
- Educate and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of African arts by providing performances of Ibibio-Efik cultural drumming and dances in public places in Ottawa, such as churches, community centres and educational institutions, and by providing
seminars on topics relating to such performances.
- To unite all citizens of both states residing in Canada
- To encourage children of both states origin to learn and display the cultures and arts of their native land as well as Canada’s multicultural status
- To establish a unified front for support of each other in different endeavors

- To support and sponsor developmental projects and activities in both states
- To support and partner with other non-profit organizations here in Canada
